This branding project showcases my personal business cards, designed to represent my vibrant, playful design style and make a memorable first impression.
The goal was to create a business card that conveys whimsy and joy and my dedication to color-rich, graphic design. As well as that I wanted to balance that with a sense of sophistication and proficiency. The concept revolves around organic shapes and bright colors so as to create a sense of flourishment. At the same time the simplified shape of the calla lily, thick line work, and intellectual type face help to add professionalism to the design. My logo exhibits my mission towards creative and bold design that satisfies my desire for whimsy and fun imagery as well as being polished and professional.
For this design, I experimented with reducing imagery to basic organic and geometric shapes as well as their orientation and placement with each other. At first, I started with my initials, however as it evolved I remembered the tagline I often use to help people remember my name, “like the flower.” With that I reduced a calla lily down to it’s basic shapes, making for a minimalist composition that would ode well towards sophistication and professionalism. To better illustrate my boldness I experimented with different vibrant color palettes that would communicate my passion. After much deliberation, I settled on red, orange, and green. Red communicated passion and courage, orange happiness and warmth, and green growth and connection. Next I settled on the sans serif typeface “Altivo” for its clean composition which supports the theme of professionalism. However it also satisfies the theme of being alternative because the heights of the letters vary, for example, between the uppercase and lowercase “L.” Every decision was purposeful is creating a logo and brand that represents both sophistication and whimsy which plays a role in my design philosophy.
The final logo and business card effectively communicated the intended ideas. I’ve received much feedback from peers who said they’ve greatly enjoyed my branding noting it as “unique, colorful, and passionate.” The unique design often sparks conversation and leaves a lasting impression, enhancing my professional networking efforts.
